Moduleo flooring guide: Roots, LayRed and Moods explained
Start with the collection and installation system, then compare the design. This guide explains the roles of Roots, LayRed and Moods and gives you a practical shortlist to take into a flooring consultation.
What does Moduleo make?
Moduleo offers luxury vinyl flooring with wood, stone and decorative looks. Its UK collection pages present Roots, LayRed and Moods. These are not three names for an interchangeable fitting system. Keep the collection name beside every sample you shortlist.
The brand and its manufacturing story
Moduleo identifies itself as a Unilin brand and describes in-house design and Belgian manufacture. That is the manufacturer’s account of its operation, not a FloorDesigns factory inspection. A sustainability or manufacturing claim for an individual purchase should still be matched to the relevant product documentation.
Our buying suggestion is to ask what the design contributes to your room before relying on a heritage or environmental headline. Record the look you want, the practical requirements and the evidence you have actually received.
How the three collections differ
| Collection | What to explore | What to establish before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Roots | Flexible LVT in wood and stone-inspired designs. | Exact design and installation system; the Roots page also describes an approved self-adhesive underlay option. |
| LayRed | Rigid click flooring with integrated underlay; plank, tile and herringbone options. | The exact format, floor build-up and applicable instructions. |
| Moods | Decorative layouts using shapes and combinations of colour. | The named pattern, constituent pieces and an agreed layout drawing. |
Collection references: Roots; LayRed; Moods. Do not treat a colour match as evidence that dimensions, fitting or accessories are interchangeable.
Read a specification in the right order
Use two separate columns in your comparison: appearance and technical evidence. In the first, note tone, grain, texture and the pattern you prefer. In the second, record the exact product code, dimensions, construction, installation method, intended use and the supporting document. A blank technical field should stay an unanswered question, not become a guessed value.
Ask the person preparing the quotation to identify any unresolved item before you decide. If two quotations use different collections or preparations, they are not yet a like-for-like comparison.
Design the whole room, not a single swatch
Place your shortlist beside permanent features such as kitchen fronts, doors and worktops. Look at it in daylight and the lighting you normally use in the evening. Photograph the room from its entrances, then mark the pattern direction on a sketch.
For a geometric design, ask to see the proposed arrangement at awkward edges, doorways and changes of direction. Agree which drawing is being priced. Do not assume a small display panel shows the finished proportions of your room.
Residential and commercial projects need separate briefs
Describe the real activity in the room: a private living room, a home workspace, a shop or a shared corridor are different briefs. Ask for product-specific suitability and the applicable warranty document. A collection label or attractive room photograph is not sufficient evidence for a commercial specification.
For a business project, prepare the anticipated traffic, furniture and equipment, cleaning regime and any specialist requirements before selecting a finish. Where approval is project-specific, ask for written confirmation rather than a verbal assurance.
Your shortlist before requesting a quotation
- The exact collection, design and format for each option.
- The rooms covered and your proposed pattern direction.
- A written list of preparation, fitting, finishing and access questions.
- The technical, installation, care and warranty documents supplied for the chosen option.
This guide covers collection-level decisions. It is not a verified inventory of every Moduleo design, colour or size, and does not confirm FloorDesigns stock or prices.
Discuss your floor, not just a product name
Bring your collection and product code, a room sketch and the questions you still need answered. This makes a more useful conversation than asking whether an entire brand is right for every room.
