Altro: questions and answers
Choose Altro by the conditions in the space: traffic, water, contaminants, footwear and the way the floor will be cleaned. Different Altro sheet-flooring systems have different installation requirements.
Is every Altro floor a safety floor for any wet room?
No. Match the named product to the room’s contaminants, footwear, cleaning and performance requirements. A commercial kitchen and a barefoot wet area are different applications. Use the applicable technical sheet and the project’s risk assessment.
Does an R10 rating prove a kitchen floor is suitable?
No. That rating alone does not establish suitability for the actual contaminants and working conditions. Our R10 and commercial kitchen answer explains why the floor must be specified for the real use.
Does adhesive-free mean no adhesive anywhere?
Not necessarily. Product instructions can require adhesive at particular details or in particular conditions. Read the Stronghold 30 adhesive-free example; those requirements must not be assumed to apply identically to every Altro range.
How should Altro safety flooring be cleaned?
Use the routine and equipment specified for the exact floor. Remove dry debris, use the recommended cleaning solution and recover the dirty liquid as instructed. The cleaning guide covers important product exceptions.
What should the fitter confirm before work begins?
The selected floor, substrate condition, moisture assessment, preparation, seam method, coving and junctions with drains and thresholds. Where operating hours matter, agree the programme and any restrictions on use after installation.
Can a domestic warranty be used for a commercial project?
Use the guarantee and conditions covering the selected product and actual application. Confirm the project specification and installation record, then retain the applicable terms. Do not infer commercial cover from a general brand description.
Which Altro example is designed for both barefoot and shoe use in wet areas?
Altro describes Aquarius for combined wet and dry areas used barefoot or in shoes. Bathrooms and showers are listed applications. Confirm the selected system, junctions, drainage and installation documents for your project; that description should not be applied to every Altro range.

Are Cantata adhesive-free and Aquarius interchangeable choices?
No. They address different starting points in Altro's product information. Cantata is presented for busy public spaces with a low slip-risk technical summary, while Aquarius addresses combined wet/dry and barefoot/shoe use. Choose from the room assessment rather than colour or fitting convenience alone.

Can adding polish change the slip resistance of an Altro safety floor?
Yes. Altro warns that metallised emulsion polish reduces slip resistance. Do not add it to a floor relied on for safety performance without the responsible assessment. Use the cleaning method for the exact installed product and intended application.

Does Walkway 20SD use the same general cleaning advice as every safety range?
Altro specifies a neutral cleaner for general maintenance of Walkway 20SD. It warns that aggressive cleaning or polish can affect static-dissipative properties. Keep the exact range in the maintenance record so cleaners can recognise that exception.

Why does the cleaning plan need a rinse and dirty-water removal step?
Altro's method removes loosened soil and cleaner residue after scrubbing. Its instructions include rinsing with clean water and removing dirty liquid. Choose the manual or mechanical method and correct cleaner dilution for the named floor; mopping a dirty solution across it is not the complete routine.

What should a wet-area layout show before an Altro floor is ordered?
Show the drains, wall junctions, door thresholds and adjoining floor finishes. Have the installer identify the product-specific system and detailing for those points. Keep the approved layout with the quotation and handover documents so the installed floor and its maintenance requirements can be identified later.
