FLOORDESIGNS / QUESTION & ANSWER

Does Altro adhesive-free flooring ever need adhesive?

Yes, some applications do. The precise product and location determine the instructions; “adhesive-free” does not mean every detail is installed without adhesive.

A documented example: Stronghold 30 adhesive-free

Altro’s UK product page recommends wet polymer adhesive around vulnerable points such as drains, gullies and exposed edges where water ingress or thermal shock may occur. It requires full adhesion on kitchen stairs and in cold rooms below 0°C. Those instructions belong to this named product and must be read with its technical installation guide.

Evidence: Altro Stronghold 30 adhesive-free.

What should be on the installation plan?

Identify those locations on the drawing before comparing prices. Ask which areas use the normal system, which need a different fixing detail and which accessories are specified. Confirm the full sequence and preparation rather than deleting adhesive from the quotation because of the product’s name.

An exception for one Altro product does not establish the rules for another. Likewise, a permitted installation over an existing surface does not prove that every existing covering can stay.

Before the area returns to service

Ask the installer to record the applicable cure or return-to-use conditions, especially where an adhesive detail has been added. A general speed-of-installation claim should not become a guaranteed reopening time for your project.
