FLOORDESIGNS / QUESTION & ANSWER
Does Amtico flooring need underlay?
The collection matters. Click Smart includes integrated underlay; a standard gluedown installation is a different system. Do not add a loose underlay simply because another type of flooring uses one.
Start with the installation system
Amtico’s Click Smart installation page confirms that Click Smart has integrated underlay. Amtico’s installation FAQs describe its gluedown and click systems separately. These examples do not establish a rule for every specialist or commercial Amtico build-up.
Our practical answer is to identify the collection and request the full floor build-up. Do not order “Amtico underlay” without specifying the floor it is intended to support.
What should the quotation identify?
- The exact product and installation method.
- Whether an underlay is already incorporated in that product.
- Any separately specified acoustic or installation component, with its approval evidence.
- The preparation required below the finished floor.
Ask the installer to describe each layer and its purpose. This helps distinguish preparation from underlay and prevents an accessory being added simply because it appeared on a previous quotation.
What about underfloor heating or sound reduction?
Treat those as separate design questions. Request evidence for the proposed complete build-up, including the chosen flooring and any additional component. Do not turn an underlay purchase into an assumed solution for a heating or sound requirement.
Keep the written answer with your room specification. If a component is changed, ask whether the approval still applies before the replacement is used.
An existing floor you cannot identify
Find the original invoice, box label or product record. A photograph of the surface may help a supplier investigate, but it does not prove the construction beneath it. Ask for identification before adding materials or following installation advice for another collection.
For the broader buying questions, read the existing Amtico flooring guide.
Discuss your floor, not just a product name
Bring your collection and product code, a room sketch and the questions you still need answered. This makes a more useful conversation than asking whether an entire brand is right for every room.
