Burmatex: product and fitting guide

Burmatex manufactures commercial textile flooring including carpet tiles, planks, sheet carpet and entrance products. For an office, school, entrance or shared building, specify the actual format and performance evidence before selecting the design.

Start with the building’s actual use

List the areas separately: an entrance, circulation route, meeting room and classroom may need different considerations even when the colour scheme is consistent. Assess pedestrian traffic, wheeled movement, cleaning frequency and access for replacement.

The manufacturer’s catalogue includes carpet tiles and sheets with different constructions and purposes. Do not use a showroom image to prove wear classification, fire performance or suitability for a particular site.

Understand the entrance-matting options

Burmatex lists 7700 Grimebuster and 7800 Chevrolay as carpet-sheet products, and Grimebuster 50 and Chevrolay 50 as tile options. The related entrance collection technical documents distinguish tile and sheet constructions.

A sheet specification should not be copied across to a tile specification: product dimensions, backing and fire classifications may differ. For a public building, retain the correct edition of the technical sheet with the exact selected variant.

Compare sheet, tile and plank layouts

Tiles and planks permit modular layout and potentially targeted replacement; sheet carpet can require different seam positions and roll planning. Decide direction, border/junction treatments and the required visual pattern before quantities are calculated.

Plan replacement-stock requirements and retain colour/batch identification where relevant. A layout agreed before ordering can reduce avoidable cuts and future repair disputes.

Specify the whole installation system

An installer needs to assess the substrate, moisture and flatness requirements, approved adhesive or tackifier, floor preparation, traffic during installation and any manufacturer conditioning instructions.

Coordinate floor finish transitions, door clearance, matwell edges and accessibility. A selected carpet tile’s classification does not, by itself, approve an entire installation assembly for a project.

Calculate the commercial programme and cost

Estimate the flooring and fitting for each area, not just the overall building area. Include preparation, uplift, furniture, access windows, protection, trims and staged installation where people must continue using the building.

Use documented material coverage, pack sizes and layout losses to calculate quantities. Agree who is responsible for disruption, site security and waste disposal before a final commercial quote.

Retain the operations and maintenance file

Make sure the building team receives the exact product identity, technical and installation instructions, cleaning schedule, spare material and supplier contact record.

Commercial approvals and warranty terms depend on the actual product and use case. FloorDesigns can prepare a specification-based quotation, but any mandatory project standard needs confirmation by the responsible professional.
