Penthouse Carpets: product and fitting guide
Penthouse makes British wool-rich carpet ranges including Carlton, Colorado and Crofter. They differ in fibre blend, pile weight and use category, so compare the named range and sample rather than applying one warranty or cleaning rule to the brand.
Carlton wool blend and construction
Penthouse lists Carlton as 80% wool, 10% nylon and 10% polyester meltbond, a twist pile with jute backing, supplied in 4 m and 5 m widths.
The maker lists 36 oz and 42 oz variants and different tog/use values; identify which variant a quote uses.
Colorado and Crofter are different
Colorado is listed as an 80% wool, 10% polypropylene and 10% polyester meltbond twist, with 45 oz and 55 oz variants. Crofter cut pile uses 80% wool, 15% polypropylene and 5% meltbond.
Crofter Loop is a separate collection. Product family, weight and backing must be checked before making a performance comparison.
Match pile construction to the household
A wool-rich twist, flecked Berber and loop carpet create different textures and may respond differently to footfall, pet claws and furniture. Check the exact manufacturer’s room rating.
View physical samples under natural and artificial light; directional pile shading can affect appearance after installation.
Width and stairs determine purchased material
Select between available roll widths after considering room dimensions, pile direction, seams and possible offcut reuse. A staircase needs separate tread, riser, winder and landing measurements.
Include underlay, thresholds, fitting, removal and waste disposal in the whole installed cost rather than comparing only the material price.
Tog and heating must be calculated together
Penthouse lists weight-dependent carpet tog values; for example, the Carlton ranges include 1.1 and 1.2. Underlay adds to the total thermal resistance.
Confirm combined carpet/underlay values with the underfloor-heating supplier. A wool label alone does not determine heating efficiency.
Maintain the carpet and protect warranty conditions
Wool-rich blends require manufacturer-specific cleaning instructions. Do not assume bleach is approved merely because another retailer advertises easy-clean synthetic flooring.
Penthouse notes that dye batches and some widths may vary in appearance. Keep the ordered colour/weight/width, sample and written warranty together.
