Katherine Carnaby: product and fitting guide

Katherine Carnaby designer rugs, supplied through Asiatic, bring distinctive pattern and fibre combinations to interiors. The important choices are the actual size, fibre composition, sheen, construction and cleaning requirements—not simply how a room photograph presents the rug.

Compare Coral, Eaton and Coast Diamond

FloorDesigns’ manufacturer research records Coral Sand, Eaton Storm and Coast Diamond Charcoal among Katherine Carnaby rugs offered through Asiatic. Coral Sand is identified as 60% viscose/40% wool; Eaton Storm as 100% viscose; Coast Diamond’s archived example combines wool and viscose.

These are individual product references. Their pile lustre, texture, sizes and cleaning needs need to be compared against the exact manufacturer listing, not assumed to apply to all rugs in the designer range.

Understand viscose and wool before purchase

Viscose rugs can have a soft lustre that changes directionally in different light, but moisture and cleaning may need particular caution. Wool blends have their own feel and care requirements; a wool percentage does not make a viscose blend identical to a pure-wool rug.

Ask for the approved product-care instructions before placing a rug where drinks, pets or children regularly create spills. If regular wet cleaning is unavoidable, consider whether the named construction is suitable.

Choose a rug size using furniture clearances

Measure the room and sketch sofa, chairs, coffee table, doorway swings and the routes people use. Try the rug outline on the floor with paper or tape to assess balance from standing and seated viewpoints.

For dining rooms, allow for chairs being pulled back; a rug edge directly under chair legs can be uncomfortable or unsafe. Check that your chosen Katherine Carnaby design is available in the dimensions required.

Match shape and pattern to the interior

A bold geometric design such as Eaton or a textured finish can change the perceived shape of a room. Compare the scale of the design with timber planks, tiles, curtains, upholstery and natural light.

Use a genuine physical or manufacturer-approved sample where possible. Catalogue photography does not prove exact colour under your lighting or match an earlier production batch.

Choose appropriate anti-slip protection

A rug laid on LVT, wood or laminate may move unless properly restrained. Select an anti-slip pad designed for both the rug backing and the particular hard-floor surface, especially where a protective finish could be marked.

Consider curling corners and thresholds in a busy hallway. The final placement should remain free of trip hazards and should not obstruct doors or heating equipment.

Confirm the complete order and maintenance file

Record design, exact colour, construction, dimensions, backing, price, delivery/return conditions and the supplier’s cleaning instructions. A manufacturer catalogue page is not evidence of live stock or a guaranteed lead time.
