JHS Carpets: product and fitting guide
JHS Carpets supplies commercial carpet and entrance matting products for working buildings. The New Andaman carpet and Arizona II entrance products demonstrate why the correct floor covering must be chosen by function, tested construction and project conditions.
Do not confuse room carpet with entrance protection
JHS New Andaman Beige is a carpet reference in the product archive, while Arizona II Barrier Matting Grey and Arizona II Tile Charcoal are entrance-matting choices. An entrance zone must manage tracked-in grit and water as well as appearance.
Select by purpose: circulation, office, hospitality and entrance areas have different loads and cleaning routines. A matching colour does not mean the backing, fibre, wear rating or guaranteed use is identical.
Check the Arizona II tile construction
JHS publishes Arizona II Tile Black with 100% solution-dyed Nylon 6 yarn, bitumen backing and 0.5 m by 0.5 m nominal format. The reference lists Cfl-s1 fire performance and a 10-year heavy-commercial usage guarantee for that named range.
The details must be checked for the selected shade and the full product data before being placed on a tender. Never apply a particular colour’s technical field blindly to unrelated carpet or barrier-matting products.
Design a functioning entrance zone
Matting works best when its size and position correspond to pedestrian routes and expected contaminants. Consider internal and external entrances, trolley or wheelchair movement, door clearance and whether the floor is recessed or surface-mounted.
Sketch the actual matwell or tile area, including ramps and transition profiles. A threshold that creates a trip hazard is not acceptable simply because the product is described as commercial.
Use carpet tiles intelligently
Modular carpet tiles can allow targeted replacement when a section is damaged or severely soiled. Order sufficient compatible spare tiles where future repair is likely, and note laying direction and colour batch.
A tile format does not remove the need for a flat, dry and properly prepared subfloor. Check approved adhesive, backing compatibility and any staggered installation requirements.
Specify cleaning as part of the buying decision
Entrance matting must be routinely vacuumed and periodically maintained to remove trapped debris. The precise cleaning frequency depends on footfall and external conditions; use the manufacturer maintenance instructions.
For staff-heavy sites, include a maintenance handover and consider an agreed schedule rather than assuming an occasional general clean will maintain the product’s function.
Quote the project by zone
Divide a building into entrances, lobbies, offices, corridors and special-use areas. Include removal, substrate preparation, flooring, adhesive, trims, site access, working hours, labour and waste disposal.
