Hugh Mackay: product and fitting guide
Hugh Mackay carpet ranges include different polyester, wool and decorative designs. Choose the named range and construction first, then plan the actual fitting and care.
Three different Hugh Mackay carpet options
The FloorDesigns research archive lists Camden Finesse in Ivory, Natural Dwelling in Fossil and Deco Flatweave Herringbone in Fallow. They are distinct carpets; customers should compare the actual samples and range specifications instead of generalising from the brand name.
Natural Dwelling and Deco Flatweave research references include wool-rich examples, while Camden Finesse belongs to a different synthetic pile family. Request the latest individual product sheet before ordering.
Camden Finesse has identifiable technical features
The manufacturer describes Camden Finesse as 100% polyester tufted carpet with fleece backing, supplied in 4 m and 5 m widths. The range lists Heavy Domestic / Medium Contract use and standard/elite pile weights.
These details are for Camden Finesse, not for every Hugh Mackay collection. The correct shade and variant should be recorded with the width on a measured order.
Patterned designs need a proper layout
A herringbone flatweave may require attention to seam positions, borders and carpet direction. The finished appearance of hallways, landings and stairs can change dramatically when the motif turns a corner.
Draw stairs, winders and door openings before determining ordered quantities. Do not apply a generic percentage to an unknown pattern repeat or assume small offcuts can be reused.
Choose material for the real room
Soft pile and textured flatweave carpets offer different feel and appearance. Consider heavy traffic, furniture marks, pets, children and the cleaning regime alongside colour and style.
If choosing the same design for bedroom and stair areas, check that the exact product is suitable for both locations; approval for a normal room does not prove suitability for stair installation.
Prepare a complete fitting specification
Record room dimensions, roll width, seam positions, underlay, gripper and thresholds. Allow for lifting the existing carpet, waste disposal, door clearance and the minimum labour attendance charge if appropriate.
For properties with underfloor heating, check the manufacturer’s carpet tog and the underlay tog against the heating supplier’s combined limit.
Keep the correct care and order documents
A polyester pile and a wool weave may need very different cleaning treatment. Use the range’s care information and confirm current warranty terms rather than applying synthetic fibre stain advice to a wool carpet.
