Clarendon Carpets: product and fitting guide

Clarendon offers named carpet ranges including Belsize Park, Cavendish and Chancellor. Before choosing a colour, compare the construction, wool blend, feel, room suitability and total fitting requirements of the precise range.

Compare the actual Clarendon ranges

The research records identify Belsize Park, Cavendish and Chancellor as distinct Clarendon collections. Their example specifications differ: the recorded Belsize Park and Chancellor references describe 80/20 wool/synthetic blends, while Cavendish’s recorded reference describes a 50/50 blend.

These examples are guides to further selection, not evidence that every colour, width or finish within a collection is identical. Ask for the current named product specification and physical sample.

Use texture and design in the right location

Consider the room’s daily footfall, the weight of furniture and the look of the surface under daylight and warm bulbs. The same neutral shade can appear quite different across twist, loop and textured piles.

If matching a staircase and landing, look at samples upright as well as flat. Assess pile direction and potential colour variation before approval.

Plan widths, seams and stair work

A measured floor plan should show usable carpet width, doorways, alcoves, long hallways, joins and stair turns. A single floor-area number can understate the material ordered.

Confirm which Clarendon range is approved for a staircase. Decide the fitting direction, underlay and thresholds with a competent installer, especially on winders and nosed steps.

Check underlay and room comfort

Underlay affects both the feel and the overall floor system. Select underlay for the carpet’s construction, traffic and any heating requirements; a soft underlay does not automatically suit every carpet.

For underfloor heating, request the carpet and underlay tog values and check the combined thermal resistance with the heating supplier.

Compare an itemised installed quotation

Include selected product identity, measured quantity, underlay, grippers, door bars, removal/disposal, fitting, access assumptions and VAT. Distinguish any custom design work from standard fitting.

Use up-to-date manufacturer availability and delivery information. A range appearing on a website does not prove that FloorDesigns has it in stock.

Retain cleaning and warranty details

Check whether the chosen carpet’s exact fibre and construction require particular vacuuming, stain treatment or specialist cleaning. Do not transfer bleach-care rules across different wool blends.

Keep the manufacturer’s care sheet, invoice, order details, fitting record and written warranty terms together so future advice relates to the actual carpet.
