Axminster Carpets: product and fitting guide
Axminster Carpets offers carpet collections whose pattern, fibre and construction need to be compared product by product. Plan the design direction and joins before calculating the fitted quantity.
Start with the named carpet
Identify the collection, design, colour and construction on the manufacturer’s information. The Axminster Carpets brand name does not mean that every product has one fibre blend or one fitting specification.
The FloorDesigns manufacturer reference archive includes ABBAS from Antiquity and Anaman Whirl from Cobble Weave as examples for discussion. Ask us to confirm the current product details and sample availability before ordering; the named examples are not a live stock list.
Choose the pattern at room scale
A small swatch helps with colour and texture, but a patterned carpet also needs a room-scale decision. Consider the size of the motif, the furniture layout and how the design meets the doorway or staircase.
Ask to see the intended direction and where the pattern will be centred. For connected spaces, decide whether the visual direction should continue and have the fitter explain any practical restrictions.
Measure with repeats and joins in mind
The fitted quantity can differ from the room’s floor area when width, pattern repeat and matching are taken into account. Ask for the selected product’s width and repeats, then a layout showing cuts and joins.
For stairs, include the landing, turns and winders. Confirm stair suitability for the chosen carpet and agree how the design will run before the order quantity is finalised.
Assess the room and underlay
Discuss traffic, pets, access from outside and the comfort you want underfoot. Ask for the product’s intended-use classification and the proposed underlay and fitting method. Do not assume a domestic design has approval for a commercial project.
For heating, obtain the exact carpet tog and underlay specification and give the combined system to the heating supplier. The brand name or wool content alone does not settle thermal suitability.
Care for the installed product
Obtain the vacuuming and cleaning directions for the exact carpet. Where the selected carpet is wool, use wool-appropriate advice rather than transferring a treatment from a synthetic range. Ask before applying a stain treatment if the material or method is uncertain.
Keep a record of the product and installation. For a persistent mark, identify the spill and any treatment already attempted so the advice can be matched to what is actually on the floor.
Confirm the complete quotation and cover
Check that the quote identifies the exact carpet, width, measured layout, underlay, preparation, fitting, finishing details and disposal where included. Compare like-for-like work when assessing the fitted price.
Ask for the warranty applicable to the product and use, including installation and maintenance conditions. Keep the current terms with the invoice. FloorDesigns will confirm availability, the selected specification and the final measured order.
