Karndean flooring guide: compare the design and installation format

Karndean flooring choices include different installation formats. Compare the exact range, colour and product code so that your shortlist reflects both the look you want and the work needed in your room.

Start with the installation format

Karndean’s UK installation resources distinguish gluedown and rigid core flooring, with separate instructions for rigid core herringbone. These should be treated as different systems when you request fitting advice.

For a new project, its UK loose-lay page currently directs customers to gluedown and rigid core formats. If you are matching an older LooseLay floor, bring the original product information and ask about availability rather than assuming a replacement can be ordered.

Compare products, not just names

A room scheme needs more than a colour match. Note the product code, plank or tile size, intended laying pattern and installation format. Ask the team to confirm the specification against your room and intended use.

Use physical samples to assess colour and texture. Put your shortlist beside skirting, doors and adjoining floors. Tell us about pets, regular foot traffic and your cleaning routine so these questions form part of the discussion.

How do I look after a Karndean floor?

Karndean recommends removing loose dirt with a soft broom and cleaning with Karndean Clean or a pH-neutral cleaner approved for vinyl. Its FAQs advise against steam mops and steam cleaners. Use the current instructions for your floor and follow the cleaner’s dilution directions.

If you are unsure which floor is installed, find the invoice or packaging before choosing a treatment. For a mark or damaged area, send the team photographs and the product details before attempting a repair.

What should the quotation confirm?

Ask for a clear scope covering the selected flooring, preparation, fitting and finishing details. Discuss the site assessment, access, furniture and any deadlines. Compare quotations on the same scope so omitted work does not distort the price.

Keep the relevant warranty document with your purchase record. Check the applicable terms and registration requirements rather than applying a warranty headline to every product or project.
